the days aren't so golden anymore

i'm sorry for my serious lack of posting this weekend;
we had to put down our thirteen year old golden retriever on saturday &
i didn't really have the energy to be a chipper,
"hope-you're-weekend-is-awesome!" blogger.
because let me tell you,
putting down the one snuggly, huggable, &
compassionate constant in your life
sucks.
and nobody tells you that.

or at least, i never believed them.
because maggie was better than all of those other dogs
combined.
she was the perfect golden.
all love, no bark or bite.

people often say that dogs are a reflection of their owners.
i don't believe that for a second.
maggie was the best of us.
she was by far the most social,
the most optimistic,
the most loving,
and the most persevering.

i promise i'll be back to posting normal,
{re: less sappy}
posts tomorrow.
{you can even check out my downright
sun-soaked guest post here}
but today, i just wanted to tell you
about the most special, smiley dog that ever is or was.
maggie mo,
we miss you so so much.
{and there's two unopened packs of ballpark franks
in the refrigerator to prove it.}

rainy day living

some pictures from today:

nothing terribly new or exciting to report.
just a lot of rain.
i had my job interview today,
so cross your fingers because i would
reeeeeeally like to have some kind of income
to fund my obnoxious shoe habit.
speaking of, i have the waking reflexes of a ninety two year old
grandma today & have been dozing off literally every half hour.
so no outfit post to-day.
but maybe
{if there's nothing good to fall asleep to on tv}
i will draw my outfit.
because it was kinda cute.
anyway.
i'll leave you with this:

i wish heartfelt didn't always equal hooky

{i am so very lucky to have the friends that i do.
i wish there was a more powerful way to convey that.
but they are each so funny & so smart,
so clever & cultured,
so selfless & passionate,
so gracious & kind.
i have known many amazing individuals, and i don’t think i ever really appreciated the diversity of friendships i had until today.
i love them all.}

i posted this to tumblr earlier, but i wanted to elaborate.
this week, i've been constantly struck with how much i love my life.
or rather, the strange and beautiful people that populate it.
maybe it has something to do with deactivating my facebook
but i've been able to appreciate my friendships even more this week.
i have friends that are always hooking me up with the latest & greatest music
via mixtapes & awesome websites {daytrotter, 8tracks}
i have friends that listen to my spirited rants &
friends that know just how to handle my opinionated, persnickety nature.
i have friends that love how animated i get when i tell a story &
friends that can enjoy the absolute peace of saying nothing at all.
but by far
my favorite friends are the ones who want to teach me things
or show me things that are unique & special to them.
either because they care enough to educate & enhance me as a person,
or because they genuinely know what i will find inspiring.

what else can i say?
everything's copacetic.
 I worry, I weigh three times my body

I worry, I throw my fear around
But this morning, there's a calm I can't explain
The rock candy's melted, only diamonds now remain

filling in the blanks

as per my pledge to post more,
here are some exciting things that have been happening
around these parts:

{the university opened a new hot dog stand
right outside of the library... just in time for spring!}

{a swan poised to attack shelby & me on our walk around the lake}

{my free moments--there are very few--have been dedicated
exclusively to the draw something app}

{browsing new & used vinyl at horizon after a yummy dinner
at the bohemian last weekend}

{i finally got around to developing my spring
break pictures...uploads to come!}

{chrissy's spectacular arm party}

{oranges are my new favorite side dish in the dining hall}

{cara sweetly made me caramel brownies at the
pinnacle of my stressful weekend...
bevin & i proceeded to double-fist them at 12 o'clock at night}

{at last--strawberry season! i've been picking up these babies by the bucketload}

{the back of my formal dress... i have loads of pictures from formal too!}

{and of course, there's been way too much of this}

xx,
sarah
